In early 1979 we relocated about three hours by boat upstream from Sanggau to preach the gospel in an unreached village of about 300 families called Biang.

The village of Biang lies along the banks of the Kapuas River, the longest river in West Kalimantan.

We rented a “house” for three months at a cost of five US dollars. For an updated photo, click on 2017 photos.

The house came with a fantastic view of the river from our front door. For an updated photo, click on 2017 photos.

This lady, the wife of the local coffin maker, was healed miraculously of constant stabbing pain in her eye, and accepted the Lord Jesus along with most of her family.

The young man on the left was also miraculously healed by the Lord after falling down lame while in the jungle, and decided to follow the Lord. Others were also miraculously healed by the Lord, and made the decision to believe on Jesus Christ for eternal life.

We appointed A Min Ko as the first elder of Biang.

There was a nearby village upstream from Biang called Menjaya. We decided to preach the gospel there as well.

We borrowed a boat to travel between Biang and Menjaya.

A man of peace there named Su Fong welcomed us and we began to hold meetings in his home.

The believers partake of Holy Communion at an evening meeting in Su Fong’s house.

Some of the brethren seeing us off as we return to the United States after three months living and ministering in their midst.

To this day (2013) the two congregations continue to meet to worship the Lord and to receive His word. The little girl in the photo below (second from the left in the second row just behind the girl in the red dress) now pastors the two congregations along with her husband. Her name is A Song.

I gave thanks to God for His wondrous grace in using us (I was barely two years in Christ when we arrived in Indonesia) in such a fruitful way during our eleven months there.

Returning home to the United States, we waited on the Lord to send us back to Indonesia to take on an even bigger challenge. He led us to First Christian Assembly in Plainfield, New Jersey, at that time led by Pastor Bob Mahaffy. They gave us an opportunity to share what we had just witnessed in Indonesia. The Lord opened their hearts to send us back to Indonesia as fully-supported missionaries. For the next chapter of our adventure of faith, please click on…
