Back to Fulfilling the Great Commission & the Last Days
John 9:4 “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.”
It is arguable exactly what Jesus meant by this, but it would appear that night is coming in America. In the space of two days recently we have seen the following headlines: Marijuana church given tax-exempt status in Indiana: ‘Somebody at the IRS loves us’ This first headline tells us that the popular culture in America is alive and well even at the level of the federal government. Our nation’s slide into the pit of darkest depravity is now official.
Bruce Jenner debuts new identity: “Caitlyn” This news about Bruce Jenner, having been in the headlines for weeks already, would not shock us if not for the “very Playboy bunny-esque” photo of “Caitlyn” which just appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine—now gone viral and seen by nearly everyone on the internet. Sadly, some men not knowing any better will undoubtedly be tempted to lust over the photo of the erstwhile Bruce Jenner. Our culture continues its headlong slide into the pit.
“…slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil…”
Can we reverse this? Perhaps not. Recent trends, including the acceptance of the pornographic movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” glorifying sado-masochism into the mainstream make it more and more likely that we are witnessing “the final days of Rome” now here in America. Liberal speakers dominate college commencements, conservative group says According to Fox News, “Liberal speakers will outnumber conservatives by at least 6-to-1 at the nation’s top 100 schools as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, according to conservative watchdog group Young America’s Foundation. Among the top 10 of the list–which includes schools such as Princeton, the University of Chicago and Duke–none is hosting conservative speakers.” Our young people, including many from Christian families, are being educated overwhelmingly by very liberal professors. They have inculcated their God-hating philosophy in our young people—our future leaders. In the long run, therefore, the situation will inevitably worsen. Night is indeed coming in America, when no one can work. Of course we will continue to preach the gospel here. But what remains to be done here is likely little more than the gleaning following the main harvest which is long past.

Ironically, the harvest in “gospel-resistant” mission fields abroad is white and abundant. When we preach the gospel there as Jesus commanded his disciples—“heal the sick and tell them, ‘the kingdom of God is near you’”—many Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, idol-worshipers and those who believe in witchcraft will turn to Jesus Christ. When they hear the gospel and witness miracles they have never seen before, many will repent and put their faith in our Father in heaven, the One True God who created the heavens and the earth.
Untouched villages in Orissa, India turn to Jesus as they witness His miraculous power
Should we not therefore direct most of our resources and manpower to reach the “gospel-resistant” on the mission field while it is still very much day there in terms of the extraordinary harvest still to be reaped?
Feedback received from one Christian leader on article
June 3 – “Some feedback on the article……I do not believe America is as far gone as the media and Hollywood spins things. A queer thing has happened to America indeed but it still remains a 2 percent minority. While the demonic influence in these arenas is clear and the stage is being set for trying times—I would not go so far as to say it is not recoverable. If we were successful in influencing the media and universities alone to repent it would have great impact. Perhaps some focus on this effort would have a great yield.” August 3 – “Looks like you were right. The condition in America is much worse than I thought. I was sort of in denial and in a false hope that it really was not as bad as it is—–but after getting back from San Francisco and much prayer and reflection— I have to agree with you. While it grieves me to say that —-it is the truth.”
