During these very Last Days, ALL true disciples of our Messiah Jesus can be trained to heal the sick and cast out demons exactly as Jesus did in the gospels for the sake of fulfilling the Great Commission.

John 14:12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing…

What works is Jesus referring to here? In verse 11 the previous verse, Jesus had said:

John 14:11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

“The works” refer to the miraculous works that Jesus did as evidence that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him. The great majority of such works consisted of healing the sick and casting out demons. Primarily due to such miraculous works, the disciples believed that Jesus was the promised Messiah.

In John 14:12 Jesus solemnly promised that whoever believes will do the miraculous works that He did. This promise is being fulfilled today during these very Last Days before the great and terrible Day of the Lord.

In the gospels, Jesus healed the sick and cast out demons primarily through the use of supernatural authority and power. In Luke 9:1-2 and Luke 10:9 He gave this authority and power to his disciples and sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

A close study of the miracles performed by the early disciples in Acts reveals that even after they were baptized in the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, they continued to use the authority and power given to them by Jesus in the gospels to heal the sick and cast out demons.

Therefore this supernatural authority and power given to the disciples in the gospels is not to be confused with the gifts of the Holy Spirit—like the gifts of healing—which were available only after Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended. Authority and power are indeed separate and distinct from the gifts of the Spirit.

Authority and power were primarily to be used while proclaiming the kingdom of God (Luke 9:1-2, Luke 10:9). By contrast, the gifts were to be use primarily to build up the body of Christ, the Church (1 Corinthians 14:12).

Therefore, while not all believers have gifts of healing (1 Corinthians 12:30), every believer can be trained to heal the sick and cast out demons when proclaiming the gospel to non-believers. Every believer is a witness of our Messiah Jesus.

Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 …they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
