Workers sent the Lord’s harvest field need not do what Muslims do in Pakistan and elsewhere. Rather we should proclaim the kingdom of God to the lost as Jesus commanded his disciples: “heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘the kingdom of God has come near to you’ ” (Luke 10:9).

“Christians” who can be lured away with material benefits are most likely nominal and not born-again. Similarly, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and idol-worshipers who convert to Christianity through a similar approach used by missionaries might not be truly born-again, or their faith is weak. Such converts have been termed “rice Christians.” But when Third World peoples witness irrefutable miracles as compelling and absolute evidence that our Father in heaven is the Only True God and that Jesus Christ is the only way to Him, they will believe with all their heart.

In missions let us therefore return to Scripture and preach the gospel as Jesus commanded, and no longer according to our traditions.

Harvest workers on the mission field can in fact be trained to heal the sick and cast out demons effectively on a consistent basis when they are sharing the gospel.
